Procedures to Build and Install Git on Ubuntu

I thought Git should be Linux user friendly. However the set up steps seem to be much complicated then usual. Even I want to install Git through Ubuntu Software Center, all I’m getting are some errors on downloading the unauthorized source?!

So since that, I only can build it through the source code.

  1. Download Git source code from http://kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/git-1.7.3.2.tar.bz2
  2. Unzip it
  3. We need this zliblg to build the source code later
    • sudo apt-get install zlib1g-dev” in terminal
  4. $ ./configure
  5. $ make
  6. $ sudo make install

And done. You can check it by typing $ git –-version.

After that all the source code can be removed.
